get-accurate-google-analytics-page-views-by-adding-an-ip-filter

Google Analytics is a great tool, it allows us to see detailed information about our websites statistics. We use Google Analytics in industry to benchmark performance whilst we tweak and grow our website. We all just assume that the data from Google Analytics is accurate, but is it? The answer in most cases is no.

After you have set up your Google Analytics account, I highly recomend to filter out your IP address. This means that Google Analytics wont count page views from your computer and therefore not taint your real page view data.

How to filter out your computer from Google Analytics

  1. Login to your Google Analytics account and then click the Analytics Settings link in the top left of the screen.
  2. Find the domain you would like to add the filter to (if you have more than one), next, click on the edit button to the far right, under Actions.
  3. Navigate down to the table titled: Filters Applied to Profile, to the far right of the table heading, you will see + Add filter, click this link.
  4. Find your Computer’s IP address. You can find an easy tutorial here: http://www.wikihow.com/Find-the-IP-Address-of-Your-PC
  5. Back in Analytics, add your IP address and use these settings.
